Can you measure an ROI on merchandise?

Often, I get asked: “How do we measure ROI on promo giveaways?” And when I ask: “How did it work for you? What was the result?” I hear: “I don’t know” or “Not sure. We just wanted to get our brand out there?”

I would say the real motivation for promotion is not to ‘get a brand out there.’

What we really want is to be better known, sell more stuff or make more money. The next level that we yearn for is a deeper understanding of what we’re here to do and the difference it might be possible to create. 

Here are a couple of things you may want to consider before making a decision on your next promotion:

PURPOSE: Why. The reason for this promotional product?

POSITION: Vision. What is your brand position? ( Example: Virgin is all about fun and team)

PEOPLE: Values. Who is your audience and how would you like them to feel?

PLAN: How we will deliver on the vision while staying true to our values?
